AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ Companion Series Is Officially Coming

You may remember that news broke a few months back that AMC was working on a companion television series to The Walking Dead. Basically, the idea was to set another TV series within the same, zombie-infested world of their massive hit The Walking Dead, but to have it take place in a different location with a different set of characters. Well, that new series is officially becoming a reality.

AMC has officially given a pilot order to the as yet untitled spin-off series. Essentially, they plan to shoot the pilot episode, from a script written by Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman & Dave Erickson (Sons of Anarchy), late in 2014 and will then decide whether to officially commission more episodes. Erickson would serve as the series showrunner while Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert would serve as executive producers.

While it seems unlikely that we’ll know anymore about the series until casting officially ramps up, we’re just a little under a month away from The Walking Dead‘s Season 5 Premiere on October 12th.
