It’s safe to say The Amityville Horror movie franchise has been through its fair share of ups and downs over the course of its twelve and counting films. It’s actually been awhile since the franchise has even seen an entry hit the big-screen, but next year’s Amityville: The Awakening is about to change that.

Starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cameron Monaghan, Bella Thorne and Kurtwood Smith, Amityville: The Awakening is written & directed by Franck Khalfoun, the filmmaker behind last year’s fantastic and incredibly underrated Maniac remake starring Elijah Wood. The film centers on a single mother who moves into the haunted Amityville house not knowing it’s bloody history.

While I don’t really feel strongly one way or the other about the trailer below, here’s hoping the talented Khalfoun is able to deliver yet another creeptastic horror film. We’ll find out when Amityville: The Awakening hits theaters January 2, 2015.
