Back in 2012, Scott Derrickson’s Sinister was a surprise horror hit. Receiving both solid reviews and an even more solid box office haul, writer-director Derrickson used the film as a springboard to move on to bigger and better things (Marvel’s Doctor Strange), but that hasn’t stopped Blumhouse Productions from capitalizing on its success with a tightly-budgeted sequel.
Sinister 2 tells another tale focused on Bughuul, a boogeyman of sorts who enters the real world through film and photographs. James Ransone returns as Detective So & So from the first film, and is joined by an entire new cast that includes Shannyn Sossamon, Tate Ellington, and a new group of young, terrified kids.
