As many of you know, Dr. Morbid is not much of a found-footage horror fan, unless it is done very well. Most of the time I think it is used out of laziness or a lack of budget, but every now and then I am pleasantly surprised by one. Happy Camp, produced by Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films and directed by first-timer Josh Anthony, looks to be a possible exception to the rule.
The plot is as follows, “In the vast wilderness of the Klamath National Forest lies the small town of Happy Camp, CA. With a population consisting of only a few hundred souls and buried deep in the mountains, the town is an island unto itself. Michael has finally gotten the courage to face his past in an attempt to find peace and remember what transpired on that fateful day. Under the provocation of his girlfriend, Mike has reluctantly agreed to allow the experience to be documented. Unfortunately, what he uncovers is a deeper mystery that they may all want to forget.“
Happy Camp stars Michael Barbuto, Anne Taylor, Teddy Gilmore and director/writer Josh Anthony. It is set to be released On Demand for March 25th, and you can check out an exclusive trailer for the film below. Let’s hope that we can add Happy Camp into the small pile of good found-footage films, as opposed to the large pile of shitty ones that need to be destroyed.
