While movie theaters nowadays seem to be overrun with superhero flicks, every once in awhile one comes along that is a different breed entirely. Enter James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, an adaptation of the cult Marvel comic book that will finally be getting its day in the sun come August. The first trailer for the film premiered tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and it’s safe to say mainstream audiences better get prepared for the big-budget weird to commence.

James Gunn, a writer-director known for indie flicks Slither and Super, is behind this latest film from the ever-growing Marvel Studios, who hope they’ve got yet another hit on their hands. The main selling point for this particular film is its cast. The insanely likable Chris Pratt (Parks & Recreation) stars as Peter Quill AKA Star Lord and I for one can’t wait to see this star-in-the-making hit this role out of the park. He’s got this everyman quality and great sense of humor that lend themselves perfectly to his Han Solo-ish rogue character. Throw in Bradley Cooper as a gun-toting raccoon and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista as an alien named Drax the Destroyer and you’ve got yourself one of the oddest superhero teams going, and that’s not even to mention Vin Diesel voicing a tree named Groot.

So check out the trailer below and get hooked…on a feeling…or something like that.
