The release date for the highly anticipated fighting game Mortal Kombat X is right around the corner. Its been awhile since I’ve broke any news about it here on morbidlyamusing.com, but that ends today as my own excitement for the game has led me to counting down the days until it’s officially out. Set to debut on April 14, 2015, Mortal Kombat X is currently a hot topic in the gaming community. Furthermore, NetherRealm studios has garnered even more interest for the game by enlisting the help of DC Comics.
That’s right, a series of MKX comics have been released and they explore the major events that took place between Mortal Kombat (2011) and this brand new game.
The comics are bloody, gory, graphic and feature the origin stories of several new characters including Cassie Cage, D’vorah, Ferra Torr, and Kotal Kahn. Old characters yet to have been confirmed for the game also appear, such as Frost, Fujin, Hsu Hao, Jax, Kenshi, Mileena, Movado, Reiko and Reptile among others. The comics may prove to be an extremely interesting read if you enjoy following the Mortal Kombat storyline.
Aside from the buckets of blood that are seen in the comic book’s promotional images, character revelations may also be coming. While there is no concrete proof that these additional characters will be playable in Mortal Kombat X, speculation is that Kenshi and Mileena have already been leaked by way of the promotional videos currently playing at GameStop.
The comic definitely bridges the gap between the last Mortal Kombat game and MKX nicely. There’s even a scene where Kotal Kahn, now emperor of Outworld, tries to enlist the help of Col. Sonya Blade to fight Mileena. Also in the comic, we are introduced to several notable characters’ offspring, such as Jax’s daughter Jacqui and Kenshi’s son Takeda. Finally, brand new characters also pop up in the narrative such as a man named Erron Black, who has yet to show up in any sort of MK related media.
There are currently four issues available and much more to come. Below are the names of the issues thus far.
Mortal Kombat X #1: A Bloody Beginning
Mortal Kombat X #2: Kombat Training
Mortal Kombat X #3: Warming Up
Mortal Kombat X #4: Caged & Enraged
With a little over two months left until release, some classic MK characters have also finally been confirmed to join the already mighty cast of characters of Mortal Kombat X. These additions include Kitana, Kung Lao, and Quan Chi, who were all revealed over the last few months. These character revelations certainly have pleased fans of the series and the video package put together showcasing said characters in action will leave any fan-boy frothing at the mouth. Take a look for yourself below.
Personally, I am surprised that Kitana and Kung Lao are making their return seeing as how they were both killed off in the last Mortal Kombat game. However, as it has been said before, “no one really dies in Mortal Kombat”. One final note I found interesting is that neither Kitana nor Kung Lao have appeared in the MKX comic book as of yet. It will certainly be interesting to see how they fit in with the storyline.
