New ‘Power Rangers’ Movie Coming To The Big-Screen

Way back in the ancient era of the 1990s, my after-school tradition was to rush home and catch the latest episode of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series. I loved the show (a little too much) and dreamed of one day becoming Billy, the Blue Power Ranger. Now that I’m 27 years old, you can imagine that my dream fell by the wayside and I honestly can’t remember the last time I watched even a second of anything Power Rangers-related. Well, if the latest news coming from Lionsgate and Saban is any indication, that’s about to change.

Lionsgate and Saban have joined forces and announced that they plan to release a live-action Power Rangers film that will “re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world.” Yeah, that’s right. They are going to “re-envision” the Power Rangers for the big-screen and audiences everywhere.

What exactly this new version of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is going to entail is really anyone’s guess at this point, but I for one have honestly resigned myself to the fact that I’ll be seeing it upon its release to theaters. Will it be good? I seriously doubt that. After all, was the original series even good, or was I simply watching it through the rose-colored glasses of a nerdy elementary schooler? Yeah, I’m gonna go with my hunch and say the latter.
