Sharknado either changed the landscape of cinema or made a mockery out of it.  Hey, I enjoyed the joke about as much as anybody could, so here we go…get ready for Sharcano! It is unfortunately however, not a film…yet. Horror site Shock Til You Drop reports that a former contributor of theirs, Jose Prendes, is actually writing Sharcano as a novel.

Here’s the description which comes via HorrorNews.net: “When three volcanos begin to violently erupt simultaneously you wouldn’t think things could get much worse, but when they start blowing sharks made of magma out their tops, things get crazy!”  So it’s basically like Sand Sharks, but instead you substitute magma for sand.

Author Prendes has this to say about his book:  “The idea was to write a big, epic Syfy channel-style story, but not worry about budget and silly script notes and pull out all the stops. Imagine the best possible version of a sharks-run-amok story and that is what I tried to deliver. While the concept is admittedly cheesy, I made sure the consequences were real and the characters felt like human beings and not cookie cutter cliches. I wanted to write THE STAND meets JAWS, and damn did I have a hell of a lot of fun a long the way!”

Sounds Oscar-worthy. And yes, the sarcasm was implied. Although there is no word on a possible SyFy movie adaptation yet, Prendes’ novel is scheduled to hit stores on January 27th. The fan poster above is just for fun.
