In what is perhaps the single greatest movie news of all-time (no, that is not an exaggeration), James Franco will star as “filmmaker” and all-around odd-ball Tommy Wiseau (writer, director & star of cult classic The Room) in the big-screen adaptation of one of the funniest and most moving books I’ve ever had the pleasure to read, “The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room”.
The news that James Franco would be directing a big-screen version of “The Disaster Artist” hit the web back in February and that news was exciting enough on it’s own, but now that Franco is actually planning to play Wiseau himself, it’s safe to say my anticipation is through the roof. This latest news has come courtesy of Franco’s long-time pal Seth Rogen, who stopped by the Opie & Anthony Show to reveal Franco’s intention of playing Wiseau himself.
For those not in the know, “The Disaster Artist” is actor Greg Sestero’s memoir on his experiences making The Room along with Tommy Wiseau. If you have not yet had to chance to read it, I simply can not recommend it more highly. It’s one of the best books on filmmaking I’ve ever read and I still laugh just thinking about some of the Tommy Wiseau stories Greg tells in it.
The film will center on Greg and Tommy’s on-again, off-again friendship and their experiences making one of the most infamous so-bad-it’s-good films of all-time.
My body is ready.
And now, for your viewing pleasure, a scene from The Room starring both Greg and Tommy Wiseau himself.
