Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat showcases the Halloween spirit better than just about any All Hallows Eve-themed horror flick out there. No offense Mr. Carpenter, you’re still awesome. Trick ‘r Treat gives us five interwoven, in often surprising ways, stories that all occur on Halloween. We also get a cast of fantastic actors including Dylan Baker as a serial killing principal, Anna Paquin who’s dressed as Little Red Riding Hood and is stalked by a stranger, and Brian Cox as a cranky old man forced into battling a demon named Sam.
The real star of this film, however, is the cinematography. The entire color palette screams Halloween and the Jack-O-Lantern’s look intimidating. Also, Anna Paquin in her Red Riding Hood outfit looks stunning as she’s wandering through the woods. The twist at the end of her story is perfect, especially for fans of True Blood who are sick of Paquin playing a fairy whore.
This is the perfect film to watch in preparation of the big day. It makes me want to go out and trick or treat.
Do you like candy?
